Are we there yet?

It is that time of year again to head up north to visit our friends over the Fourth of July.  This year we are meeting up in a cabin located in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  As you can see in the picture below, Riggs is all clean and ready to roll.

Car window

Riggs loves to go for a ride in the car.  Today I was driving and Mama rolled down the window.  Riggs stuck his head out the window to look around and as we accelerated from the stop light he left his head out the window only so long until the wind got just strong enough that he wigged out and pulled his head back in.  Something about strong wind gust and this dog.  He loves the breeze up to a certain speed and then gets concerned.

Blinker

Riggs loves to go for a ride in the car.  He will pace back and forth from window to window looking out to see what is going on.  As excited as he is to go for a car ride, he gets even more excited when he hears the car blinker for some odd reason.  I don't know if he has associated the sound of the car blinker to us arriving at our destination or what but every time that car blinker is activated super excited Riggs kicks into action.

Happy 4th of July

We are back up north for our annual Fourth of July trip to visit our friends.  Second year in a row of Riggs behaving in the long 10 hour car ride.  Mama’s friend made Riggs a patriotic bandana to wear on the 4^th.  He was a little sleepy from the Benadryl apparently since we took a picture just as he was doing a big yawn.  Took him for a nice long walk later that night when it was cool outside and he kept looking around in every direction at the sounds of fireworks going off.  He was not sure what to make of all of it.

Let's go cruising but I want up front

Mama got a new car last weekend and we figured Riggs would love having the entire hatchback area to himself.  He could play with his toys, lay on his bed he got for Christmas, look out the window on either side.  But no, all he did is whine and try to crawl over the back to get into the backseat.  If you have him in the backseat with you then he spends the whole time trying to get into the front seat.  If you have him in the front passenger seat he spends the whole time trying to get in your lap in the driver’s seat.  Riggs do you understand the term suffocating?

Road Trip

Now having a dog has made taking trips a bit more of a challenge.  We went and checked out some local boarding places to see what the conditions were like and did not get that warm and fuzzy feeling about leaving Riggs there.  We also looked into having someone watch him at their home and that was too expensive.  So we decided to take him with us on our annual road trip up north.

Each year Vanessa and I go visit some friends that are about 10 hrs north of us.  This was our first long road trip with Riggs.  He ended up doing great.  No accidents in the car or at the hotel we were staying at.  Why the hell can we not get him to do that at home yet?
